Pomegranates for your health

So I have been sick since last week. On Friday I wondered if I could go out and drink beer and not get more sick. It seemed like it was worth a try. My friend was in town visiting and we went out to celebrate another friend's success with his big exam for his PhD. We stayed out until really late and had a big greasy breakfast the next day. Shortly after waking, I began to feel very very gross. We ran lots of errands, going to the Ballard Locks to look at fish and to a fly fishing shop in Bellevue and then to the store. We went to a drugstore and I purchased Wal-flu, or generic theraflu. I was exhausted and was on the couch for about the rest of the weekend. On Sunday I could hardly breathe and found it quite difficult to eat, since I had to breathe out of my mouth since my nose was no longer functioning. I became a Mouth Breather.

Yesterday I took the day off work, marking my first Sick Day since starting my Real Job nearly 6 months ago. I still went into work to grab some things to do at home, but didn't do a whole lot except read over some logs. While there, a coworker looked at me and exclaimed "You're sick! Go home!" and I sure did. I felt awful. My nose was all red. I still couldn't breathe, except through my mouth.

One of my roommates was jetlagged from a trip to Italy (poor baby) so we curled up on the couch and watched Jane Austen movies (Oh, Mr Darcy!)

Later that night, my other roommate ate a pomegranate while I sat on the couch knitting and watching Elizabeth Bennett tell Mr. Darcy to piss off. Pomegranate! So good for you!, I thought. Vitamins and yummy and I love how the seeds are in little compartments. How wonderful is the pomegranate. And what a joy to eat. I figured we received pomegranates from the farm where we order produce, and hoped to find another in our fruit bowl, but alas, they only delivered one and she ate it. I was very sad and grumpy, which was a bit silly, but I didn't feel well. She apologized for eating the pomegranate and I apologized for being grumpy and stated "I just feel gross and a pomegranate sounded good." We hugged, I went to bed, all was well.

Today I am feeling much better. I can smell, I went to work, my nose isn't quite so red. I came home and found on my table in my room, my roomate purchased a beautiful pomegranate and stuck a little note on it: Feel better! it said. What a wonderful gesture.

"You're so sweet!" I said.
"You're so sweet!" she replied. Awww.

My other roommate then came home and said "Look what I bought!" and pulled 2 pomegranates out of a plastic bag. Now we each have a pomegranate.

Isn't that special?

Awww. You don't look sick in that picture, at least. You did not listen to me about the beer...I was right, was I not? (smug)

Totally right. You have every reason to be smug. Silly me did not read your words of wisdom until Sunday and by then it was much, much too late.

You sweet pomegranate girls. Were Bob and Queen Cup jealous? And Mmm Mmm, I love me some Mr. Darcy.

Our house is all about the pomegranate love and Cup and Bob can have some too, but all they want is the mixed grill.
